Expert Hand Surgery in Saginaw, Michigan

Hands are arguably the most critical tools we use to maintain our day-to-day lives. As such, having them operated on can be a daunting prospect. However, surgery is often an unfortunate necessity for many of those with debilitating damage to their hands.

Hand surgery can treat a number of conditions that cause pain and limit mobility. Listed below are a couple of the most common conditions that can be treated or alleviated by Dr Barry.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndromeis a relatively common condition caused by pressure to the median nerve in the wrist. This can be caused by repetitive motion in the wrists, general overuse, injuries to the nerve, or fluid retention. Tingling sensations, pain, numbness, weakness or aching are all symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome.

Dupuytren’s Contracture

This disorder results in thick, scar-like bands of tissue that form in the palm, which can eventually result in severe restriction of the movement of the fingers. It typically starts off as small nodules and can gradaully worsen until the fingers are no longer able to be extended. Historically, surgery was the only option. Recently, an injectionable product called Xiaflex has become available. Dr Barry has been using Xiaflex since it has been released for use. Many of his patients have had excellent results with Xiaflex and have avoided surgery. Only surgeons with extensive experience with hand surgery are allowed to use this product.
